Acai ( Euterpe oleracea ) is a species of palm tree in the Arecaceae family, exclusively South American (from southern Central America to northern Brazil). It can grow up to 20 m and grows mainly in marshy areas. It is cultivated mainly in Brazil.
Its fruits, often also called "acai" instead of "acai berries", are reddish-purple, tending to purple, 1 to 2 cm in diameter. When ripe, these berries resemble blueberries or elderberries. It is made up of 10% skin-pulp and 90% seeds-pips. The acai berry offers a mixture of flavors resembling a cocktail of red berries with a hint of chocolate.

Acai has been part of the culinary and medicinal traditions of the indigenous tribes of the Amazon since pre-Columbian times. They use young acai shoots (hearts of palm) as well as its berries.
As this berry is fragile and deteriorates quickly after harvesting, they were generally eaten fresh. Until then, they were rarely found outside of the places where the plant grew naturally.
Thanks to whole acai berry powder or these juices, it is now possible to enjoy all its benefits and its rich and creamy texture.

The acai berry contains 52% carbohydrates, 8% protein and 32% fat. Its essential fatty acids consist of oleic acid (monounsaturated fat - omega-9), linoleic acid (polyunsaturated fat - omega-6) and palmitic acid (saturated fat).
It also contains B vitamins (B1, B2, B3), vitamin E, minerals (iron, calcium) and a good level of dietary fiber.
Acai berries are rich in anthocyanin, a powerful antioxidant that gives them their dark purple color.
